What is SHRM?

The SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) is a certification offered by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world’s largest HR professional organization. This certification is designed for HR professionals engaged in the operational aspects of HR management. Demonstrate the ability to apply HR best practices, knowledge and skills in the workplace.

The SHRM-CP certification is particularly suited to early and mid-career HR professionals responsible for implementing policies and strategies, providing HR services, and performing operational HR functions.

To obtain the SHRM-CP certification, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • HR-related experience: This is determined by your level of education and professional HR experience. For example, a bachelor’s degree requires at least two years of professional HR experience, while a master’s degree requires only one year of HR experience. High school diploma holders must have at least 4 years of professional HR experience.

  • Pass the SHRM-CP Exam: This exam is a comprehensive computer-based test that assesses your knowledge and skills in the HR competency and knowledge areas covered by the SHRM Competencies and Body of Knowledge (SHRM BoCK).

After earning the SHRM-CP certification, you must maintain your certification by completing professional development credits (PDCs) through continuing learning, professional performance, and leadership activities. You must re certify every three years by accumulating a minimum of 60 PDCs or by retaking and passing the SHRM-CP exam.

The SHRM-CP certification is a valuable credential that helps HR professionals advance their careers, increase their credibility, and demonstrate their commitment to staying current with the latest HR practices and trends.

The Society for Human Resource Management-Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) exam is a computer-based test designed to assess a candidate’s knowledge, skills, and competency in human resource management. The exam covers a variety of HR-related topics as outlined in the SHRM Competencies and Body of Knowledge (SHRM BoCK).

The SHRM-CP exam consists of:

  • Test format: The test contains 160 multiple-choice questions, of which 130 are scored and 30 are unscored pretest questions. These pre-exam questions are spread throughout the exam and are indistinguishable from graded questions.

  • Exam Duration: Candidates have 4 hours to complete the exam.

  • Content: The exam covers two fundamental areas the HR knowledge area and the HR competency area. Knowledge domains are grouped into three categories: People (Talent Acquisition and Retention, Employee Engagement, Learning and Development), Organization (Structure, Culture, Efficiency and Change Management), and Workplace (Employment Law, Risk Management and Employee Relations). ). Competencies include leadership and exploration, ethical practice, business acumen, relationship management, counseling, critical evaluation, global and cultural effectiveness, and communication.

  • Scoring: The SHRM-CP exam is scored using a scaled scoring system that compares each candidate’s score to a predetermined passing score. The passing score is set by SHRM using a rigorous statistical process. Candidates receive a detailed score report summarizing their performance in each domain, along with a pass or fail status.
